Electrical Engineering UI

The Power and Energy program of the Electrical Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering University of Indonesia started in the academic year 1967 / 1968. At that time third year undergraduates were given the opportunity to choose continuing their studies in the electric power engineering or electronic engineering field.

The Electrical Engineering Department and the  Faculty of Engineering were established at the same time in July 1964. The courses itself started in October 1964 with 50 students in the beginning. Only 7 out of these 50 students, has chosen the Power and Energy program at that time, while nowadays the number is between 25 to 30 out of 100 to 110 students. The masters degree program started in the year 1993 with 10 to 15 students per year, and in the doctorate program 5 to 7 students inscribe for this year.

With only one electric machinery laboratory in the beginning, the program has now three laboratories which are the Electric Power Systems laboratory, the Electric Conversion laboratory and the High Voltage and Measurement  laboratory.

Academic Program

The Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, University of Indonesia offers five kinds of academic program:

Bachelor in Engineering Program

  • Total credits: 144
  • Programmed length of study: 8 semesters (4 years)
  • Input students’ qualification: High School Graduate in natural science major

Extention Program to Bachelor in Engineering

  • Total credits: 65
  • Programmed length of study: 5 semesters (2,5 years)
  • Input students’ qualification: Diploma (Polytechnic) Certificate with a minimum of 2 years working experience

Engineering Masters Program in Electric Power and Energy (Regular Class - Depok)

The courses of the Special Class in Salemba is more weighted in the field of electric power and energy management and is conducted in the evening.

All prospective candidates should pass the entrance exam conducted by the University of Indonesia and only a certain number of students will be admitted to the program depends on the capacity.

Each year a number of students received funding to support their study, given based on their study performance. Some companies such as Toyota Astra, Pertamina, YPTI, Andersen Consulting, VA Tech, and even the FTUI’s alumni organization, and others provided their yearly scholarship contribution.
